Exended Drought Jeopardizes Largest Lake
China’s Poyang Lake, normally a vital flood outlet for the Yangtze river, has been suffering from drought since June, with water levels at a key monitoring spot falling from 60 ft to 21 ft over the last three months.
The area of the lakebed has declined by about 90% since June and is expected to continue to fall into October.
